Hi Michael!
This is your cousin Nancy Foster in Redlands, Ca. I have often wished I had your email address in order to stay in contact, as snail mail takes so much time and EFFORT! So it was with great pleasure that I received your card and business inclosure with your address on it! My home email address is in the copy above: budnan@earthlink.net. This will make it so much easier to stay in contact!!!!
Thanks for the news about family--I can remember Sandy's wedding! I was 11 (as was your Mom!) and always longed to be like her and Karen. They seemed so grown up and sophisticated, and I couldn't wait to be just like them! Where does the time go? My baby sister Sally just turned 51last year, Tommy is 53, Mary is 57, Bill 61 and I am 62 for two more weeks!!!! Yikes!!! Well, does beat the alternative.
Speaking of family, my niece Grace (Bill's daughter and named for my grandmother your great grandmother) is getting married in Sonoma (my husband is going to perform the ceremony!!!), and there is a shower for her this weekend in Piedmont (Oakland). My daughter in law Christina and I are flying up for it, so it will be a chance for the Mulvihill siblings to gather, drink wine, share stories that don't coincide with other people's memories, tease and just enjoy being together! Living in SoCal doesn't afford me enough opportunities to be with them and my nieces and nephews, and I miss being a San Franciscan! Such a difference down here in the hinterland of the state!
Anyway, about four month ago, long story, by sister in law Emily Mulvihill was in the beauty parlor in Piedmont where she has gone for years, and when they called out her name, an older woman said that she hadn't heard that name in years but that she had a cousin Betty Longworth who married a Tom Mulvihill!!!! My parents! Small world! Her name is Mary Finley. Her son went to Berkeley with Tom, and her grandchildren went to Piedmont High and UCDavis with my nieces, and none of us knew we were related! Her mother was Phyllis Longworth, sister of Thomas Longworth (your great grandfather) and your mom's namesake. She would be my mother and your grandmother's first cousin, her kids are my second cousins, and her grandkids are your third cousins. She lived right around the corner from my brother for 30 years, and we just found her serendipitously!!! She of course knew your mom and my mom, and has good stories. They have all gotten together for dinner a few times, but she and I have just been emailing. But I will meet her this weekend--she sounds delightful--such a treasure to finally get family members together! Will try to send pictures and an account in future emails!
Your mom was very interested in those connections, and Bill shared with them the binder she had made of family photos. She would have loved this--miss her! What a wonderful legacy she left in her kids, and we are all grateful for the efforts she put into making those binders. Mary Finley and I talked over a Longworth Family Reunion--will keep you posted! When are you going to be back in the States?
You sound well and happy in your new life! I loved Hong Kong when I was there 20 years ago, and hope to get to Beijing and Hong Kong in the next few years as my girlfriend who grew up there has a son who is now the Marine Military Attaché to the US "Consulate" in Taiwan. So good excuse to get over there again!!!
Have other news but will save that for another email. You were on my mind through this reconnecting with Mary Finley, so once again I was excited to receive your note! Stay in touch!
Always,
Nancy
