Family Tree to Kings

Using the ancestry.com software, I was able to trace our family tree to William the Conqueror and the Kings of England, Sweden, France, Spain and Denmark.

This was through Grandpa Perry's mother's mother's side.

Stir Crazy

Living Tokyo is a concrete jungle. It snowed the other day and I took a picture to send home and it looked like someone spilled flour on an erectorset....just snow and buildings and sidewalks..

SO, instead of the gym I found a park yesterday and just walked around it. My neighborhood has ginko trees which are beautiful but when their nuts fall off the tree and are stepped on, it smells like a cat's litter box. For years I checked the bottom of my shoes.

But in the park there are beautiful trees and a cement man-made river with ducks. I did take a rest on a bench and was attacked by a swarm of pigeons who got uncomfortably close. I think they are used to being fed.

The teenager with the ipod and air rifle was disturbing because I could not tell if the gun was real. The angry man who sits on a bench all day and has a special table for his boombox to blare bad music into his face and the ears of everyone who passes by was not very conducive but I enjoyed the change.

So, my plan is weekdays at the gym so I will look forward to going back. They do not allow guns, loud music from boomboxes and pigeons are not members. So, I found some positive things about rules at the gym.

Diet is DIE with a T

When we lived at the old apartment i some how was not able to find the energy to get up to the 31st floor with that view of the palace. Where there was no one and I could control the heater or air conditioner....

Today...

I joined a public gym!

First of all Shinji joined on the 26th of January AND had to pay for the first two months up front BUT could not come to the gym until the 1st! So you go there, pay $200 and then have to leave for the most part of the week as they take the money to the bank and deposit it laughing the entire time.

Today is the 3rd of February so he was not offered the CAMPAIGN of February though he paid for February, which is a discount of $50 if you sign up for six months.

Sure, I have no idea where we will be in six months but I wanted to save the $50 so though they will not allow credit cards for monthly billing, they will allow you to pay for the upfront two months on a credit card and they then gave Shinji $30 in coupons for inviting a new member. Going forward they will deduct from my Japanese bank account.

Shinji insisted on me having the coupons in front of the girl and I knew damn well that he wanted the coupons for protein powder or something and so we pretended back and forth like Chip and Dale until he took them because he was going to take them off me anyhow....

So finally I have signed more forms then I had to for immigration and have NO idea what they say and I am now a member....

I should have taken a tour first. I mean, we are in Ogikubo which is like Fresno but the shitty part and so the tacky decor and the coat rack with locks and chains for the coats I can understand but then we went to the basement where the locker room is..

First I was hit with mildew then a cloud of moth balls because there are shoe lockers on every flight of stairs and the majority of the members are OLD PEOPLE who still use moth balls and then mildew again....Shinji was pissed that I was complaining already and was only on the third stair....

The locker room was fine except you have to take your shoes off and they watch to make sure you change into different shoes then the shoes you wore in though I had shoes I wore threw the sleet and snow yesterday in my bag and they were non the wiser....

They have tanning machines you sit in and they charge $5 per ten minutes which I think is a lot but Shinji does not. GOOD NEWS is my blood pressure is down from 156/105 to 136/94 so the medication is working...

I then had to take the stairs not just up to ground level but 8 flights to the work out room. There is no elevator and there are four flights per story of this building some how....I was EXHAUSTED by the time I got to the roof which is effectively where the workout room is.

I know it is stupid to complain about having to take the stairs when you are there to work out but honestly! Shinji was pissed about me complaining about that too.

So after I used the Cardiac defibulator paddles, oxygen and water, we walked on the treadmill. These are not built for someone my size. I could feel the conveyor belt stopping from the weight of my step and then restarting between steps which gave the feeling I was going to slip backwards for 30 minutes.

I then watched T.V. connected to the machine and did not realize until it was over that there were earplugs so I just counted how many Japanese politicians have bags under their eyes which I am sure is from over drinking but no one seems to draw that co-relation.

We then stretched on the mat and of course there was part time gangster man, old man, and unique and interesting Keiko....who had a rubber band of every color of the rainbow in her pony tail and gold jewelry and an anklet and a bracelet and rings and all sorts of cool and interesting shit that she has bought from every single shitty catalogue targeted at color blind people with no life and taste but somehow lots of cash to buy things and bring them ALL to the gym.

I then had to take a bottle of cleaner and spray down the area where I was stretching and wipe with a damp towel because that is what EVERYBODY does....The rules are stifling to say the least and so is Mr.Tanaka who drank and ate raw garlic for 40 years and was on the treadmill next to me as I dry heaved into my towel.

Cannot wait for the pool....
